5 Days Meru Trekking in Tanzania, On Mountain 3 days!

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our driver will transfer you to the hotel. Settle in and take time to relax and to get used to the African atmosphere. It is possible to book an extra day of rest prior to start of the climb, to give you ample time to acclimatize and recover from the flight. This extra day increases your chances of reaching the summit

Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Early start from Arusha and a relatively short drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park to complete the required park formalities. You will meet your professional guide and support team of cook and porters ( obligatory) who will accompany you on the trek. In the initial part of the trek you will expect to see many of the “plains” animals near the trail. Later, as the ascent begins in proper, you will pass the Ngarene River and its beautiful waterfall before arriving at Miriakamba Hut to overnight. Relax and enjoy the impressive sunset over dinner.

Hiking Time – 5/7 hours – Elevation Increase – 1400m/2500m

After breakfast, we commence the steep ascent of the trail along the ridge leading up the saddle. Even as we ascend, certain wildlife is still in evidence. Spectacular views of Mt.Meru Crater and the “Ash Tray” are now on offer as we proceed further. We arrive early at our destination of Saddle Hut which gives us the option of hiking “Little Mt Meru” with our guide for further acclimatization. We enjoy dinner and retire early to prepare us for our impending midnight departure to the summit.

Hiking Time – 3/5 hours – Elevation Change – 2500m/3820m/3500m

We awake at 12.30am, take light refreshments and set off for the summit at no later than 1.30am ascending the trail to first Rhino Point ( 3800m) and Cobra Point( 4350m) before the final push up a rocky ridge to the summit at 4566m. We arrive at day break rewarded by the sunrise and the spectacular views of Kilimanjaro and Meru’s very own caldera “The Ash Tray”. After quickly savoring the special moment and taking advantage of the customary photo opportunity, we commence the descent down the mountain, directly to Momella Gate. We collect our “summit certificates” for both Mt. Meru and Little Mount Meru, say goodbye to our guide and set out on our return drive to Arusha where we can put up our feet and revisit the Meru experience.

This is the last day after climb! It will be organized to allow to you to have a trip around the city, just to have time to buy some memories for family and friends before the departure. After that, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport and return home, continue your vacation on Zanzibar Island or continue with Tanzania safaris.
